The 16th King of the Lake took place on Saturday, 26 September, and what a day it was. One lap around the Attersee, 47.2 km of closed roads, blue skies over the water and a crowd that cheered every rider from the first starter to the last. Conditions were close to perfect, and the times showed it. Records fell, podiums were claimed and the VICC family was out in force across the team and individual races. Here's how our riders got on.

A new course record for Max Walscheid

The headline of the day belonged to Max Walscheid. The Lidl Trek World Tour pro set a brand new overall course record, stopping the clock at 52:54 for the full lap. That works out at an incredible 53.5 km/h average, and he finished almost two minutes clear of the next rider, Sebastian Niehues. Watching him fly past the lakeside villages was something else. In the Queen of the Lake, Leila Gschwentner (Smurfit Westrock Cycling Team) took the win in 1:04:11.

Ten Rider Team Time Trial

Geizhals.at VICC Racing Division Rockets: 3rd place

The Rockets put together a superb ride and came home third in 58:29, averaging 48.4 km/h. Only RH77 Factory Racing, who set a new course record for the ten rider format in 56:22, and Schwingshandl Intralogistics (57:34) went faster. Philip Sanjath, Christian Kromoser, Cisse De Locht, Christopher Gössigner, Jakob Ulreich, Roman Nagiller, Philipp Bevanda, Julian Wagner, Marc Balzuweit and Daniel Kratz rode as one unit, with eight riders crossing the line within three seconds of each other.

Team captain Roman Nagiller summed it up perfectly: "The committed and professional prep paid off. The performance and smoothness of our race with the Rockets was extremely good. We really pulled out the maximum of this day. We just competed against really good competitors. In most previous editions we would have fought for the win with this time."

Geizhals.at VICC Racing Division Fire: 13th place

Team Fire finished a strong 13th out of 24 teams in 1:04:07 at 44.2 km/h. Michael Kröll, Pietro Vermicelli, Stefan Pazourek, Artiom Zavtur, David Janecka, Markus Volkmann, Mathias Guggenbichler, Damir Cikarevc, Christoph Seidl and Andreas Fida-Taumer pushed right to the limit of what was possible for the team, with eight riders finishing together. It was also incredibly tight: 11th and 12th place were less than five seconds up the road. The whole squad is proud of what they achieved and is already looking forward to coming back even faster in 2027.

Four Rider Team Time Trial

Breakaway Babes: Elite Women's winners

A little luck in the draw got them their start spot, and they made the most of it. Melanie Brunhofer and Jennifer Jantschgi from Bikeleasing VERGE VICC teamed up with Anna Vass and Klara Kinzer from BBUC Racing Dream to line up together as the Breakaway Babes. In their own words: "Four riders. One team. And everything given, right down to the last watt." It paid off in style. They won the Elite Women's category in 1:08:19 at 41.5 km/h, a full 48 seconds ahead of the runners up. Congratulations, ladies!

Geizhals.at VICCRD Birthday Ride

The name says it all. Julia Almeder, Christian Almeder, Alexander Salzmann and Sandra Hartinger finished strong in the Mixed category in 1:15:11, 21st in a field of 31 teams. Alexander celebrated his birthday on race day itself, with Julia following on Sunday, so the team were super happy with the result and more than ready to party afterwards. Happy birthday to you both!

Individual Time Trial

Sabrina Schär in the Queen of the Lake

Sabrina Schär from the Bikeleasing VERGE VICC Elite Women's Cycling Team took on a very strong international Elite field and finished 13th in 1:10:30, averaging 40.2 km/h.

Age Groups

Two of our riders tackled the road bike age group categories. Kenneth Wallace-Mueller finished 33rd out of 71 in the RR U50 category in 1:12:28, while Valentin Panzirsch came home 60th in the huge RR U40 field of more than 100 riders in 1:14:25.

Thank you

A huge thank you to the RSV Atterbiker for organising another fantastic edition, to all the volunteers and marshals around the lake, and to everyone who came out to cheer. And of course a big thank you to our sponsor Geizhals.at for backing the team all season. See you at the Attersee in 2027!
