On 26 September 2026, for a change, it wasn’t all about road bikes, race numbers and full throttle on two wheels for our female athletes. Instead, they took on a 5+ kilometre course featuring more than 10 obstacles on Vienna’s Danube Island at the Beat the City Viennathlon by Merkur Versicherung.

Running, climbing, jumping, balancing, wading through mud and negotiating obstacles – for our cycling team, the Viennathlon was a welcome change from the usual racing routine. Above all, however, it was about what always plays a major role for us: being out and about together, supporting one another and enjoying the sport.

Alongside three female athletes, our physiotherapist Martina from Physio1090 was of course there too; she not only supports us in our day-to-day training and racing routine, but also played an active part in this challenge. By the time we reached some of the obstacles, it was clear: a bit of support never goes amiss.

The Merkur Viennathlon is part of the Austria-wide ‘Beat the City’ series. Around 1,000 participants took on the challenge in Vienna.

For us, however, the day was special not just from a sporting perspective. Being invited to the Viennathlon as the Merkur team, producing content together on site and experiencing the event behind the scenes made the day a special team experience. With bodycams on the route, interviews and plenty of footage from the race, we were able to capture the event from our own perspective too. And yes: fewer watts, but significantly more climbing. A few muscle groups probably reminded us the next day that we usually ride bikes.

Thank you to Merkur Versicherung for a partnership that makes more possible than just sport on two wheels. At the Viennathlon, we were able to experience exercise, team spirit and a bit of adventure together, whilst discovering whole new sides to ourselves in the process. It’s great to have you as a strong partner by our side. Here’s to many more kilometres, challenges and experiences together!
